Textile Engineering Colleges in India

Textile Engineering
Textile Engineering
Textile engineering is a new branch of science which covers the ‘appearance’ aspect of man’s personality and then design clothes according to various needs and occasions. The moment mankind came out of the Stone Age; textile became an integral part of his life in an indigenous and unorganised way. And today it has assumed the shape of an enormous organised sector with so many textile industries coming up in various parts of the country which produce goods for domestic and foreign markets. Another positive aspect is that the market would keep growing because the need for garments is a continuously rising graph while the changing fashion trends add fuel to the fire.

For the students of Haryana, Delhi NCR and North India an opportunity exists to pursue textile engineering at Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET), the top Textile Engineering Colleges in India. This institute is approved by AICTE for its qualitative education standards. The same is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, which also is one the top ranking universities of India with A+ ranking.

Textile Engineering Colleges in India
Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET)

The vision of the PIET management for choosing a location on Delhi-Panipat Road, 50 minutes travel from Delhi border and 20 minutes to Panipat is commendable. The location is ideal because Panipat is the textile hub of Haryana, a city abound in yarn and fabric manufacturing with a +3000 crore of annual export business. The campus is vast covering 19 acres and takes in its fold Haryana and Delhi NCR all round including villages, towns and cities. I understand that they are on way to global campus and have already started with neighboring countries of India and response is over whelming.

As the target is global, so are the building designs and infrastructure and every aspect is well planned and world beating. The class rooms are beautifully designed and furnished for sitting comfort for day long study hours. There are so many labs and workshops to expose you practically to all nuances of textile manufacturing which include of textile harvesting, textile processing using scientific and engineering principles and theories, machinery used, energy conservation, waste and pollution control etc. Textile technology is all about scientific study and methodologies for the processing and production of yarns, fibers and fabrics. This involves an in depth study of various reactions of chemicals and fibers on human skin as both these come in physical contact. It has a much larger scope in terms of designing, manufacturing and sales across boundaries because by nature man likes to have designs which are not common in the area he lives in. it is a stream of an on going creative research and innovation in terms of techniques, designs and material. Textile engineering means clothing people in a way that they get good jobs. It is in fact a science of appearance which greatly improves the personality of people. It is a fashion language with designed clothes as the word goes. And the clothes are never cheap. You may call them economical or more modern word is ‘chic’. The point to impress upon here is that textile is a very integral part of man since the ages but surprisingly textile engineering is not very common among engineering institutes. A sudden spurt in this field of engineering has taken the country by surprise with the recent media news regarding ONE CRORE job opportunities likely to come up in textile engineering.

The faculty team at PIET is the most competent one to take you through the process of mechanical, industrial and chemical in such a way as to strengthen wards in basic concepts of this business and making them technically sound. You are also exposed to training in plant designing, wet process, dying and printing. Guest lectures from inland experts and international seminars are also a tool to upgrade the skill and knowledge of students. And the best part of these efforts has been 100% placement of all textile students of PIET, which trumpet our claims for being the best.

Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology adds innovative and vibrant young leaders and entrepreneurs to the realm of the country who are capable of contributing to all dimensions of Technical Textiles for development and productivity, which have been developed and trained to meet challenges and built upon opportunities as, when and where they arise.

Know all about Textile Engineering

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. It simply means that fashion is all about spending on clothes. “A successful man is one who can earn more money than his wife can possibly spend. A successful woman is one who can find that man."

Textile engineering is a fashion language with designed clothes, a science of appearance which improves the personality of people. And the word cheap is never used for clothes. You may call them economical or more modern word is ‘chic’. Irrespective of everything else, textile is a very integral part of man since the ages but surprisingly textile engineering is not very common among engineering institutes. A sudden spurt in this field of engineering has taken the country by surprise with the recent media news regarding ONE CRORE job opportunities likely to come up in textile engineering in near future.

In a country like India where the culture is so rich and clothing is so versatile, textile industries are indispensable. People in India have rich and variable taste in clothing which widens the scope of textile engineering as career option in India. So if you choose textile engineering as a career you can look forward to a bright future. It is a branch of engineering which apply all the principles of scientific techniques in order to manufacture and develop various types of yarns and textile fabric from textile fibers. Textile engineering also comprises study of chemical and physical principles which are utilized for the analysis of the behaviour of polymers involved in the formation of textile fiber.

The major role of this engineering is the design and control of all aspects of textile and apparel processes, machineries, products and fibers.

We all want to wear smart and look up-to-date. Hence, the demand for quality and unique clothing has increased. This has resulted in improving the scope of Textile Engineering.

Fashion is an industry that will never go out of fashion. Hence, one can expect a speedy growth in textile industry. In fact, textile is one of the flourishing industries, catering to the needs and demands of both domestic and international market. Considered to be the most innovative field in a scientific realm, Textile Engineering includes research and development, manufacturing and merchandising. The knowledge acquired during Textile Engineering courses are then utilized for the processing and production of all types of textile fabric, yarns and textile fibers.

There are ample career opportunities in this field for talented professionals. The industrial knowledge and skills of graduates are highly valued by textile manufacturing companies. The quality of product and productivity plays a major role for exporting garments. Graduate professionals from this field are employed in departments of textile plants and companies varying from small to large scale such as planning, production, quality control, sales or marketing or agencies of domestic or abroad companies for textile products and textile machinery, intended in different regions of the country. Textile domain requires a lot of research & creativity, and students can come up with unique ideas using their creativity, innovation and scientific knowledge. Using their skills and talent, Textile Engineers can reach new heights of success by getting recruited by top textile plants & companies, and they can even open their own new venture.

How is the Placement Scenario of Engineering Graduates?

The million dollar question that plagues many brilliant minds when they slog through their college courses is whether the effort will culminate in good placements. How do you define ‘good’ placements anyway? Here’s a peek-a-boo at the current placement scenario in PANIPAT INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (PIET), one of the best Engineering Colleges of Haryana and Delhi NCR. During the session ended 2016 about 156 companies visited PIET (meaning one company every alternate day) and around 141 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES participated in placement drives to fulfill 754 vacancies. It would mean that each one of them should get 5 placements in a fair distribution. However, since the placements happens basis performance efficiency and skill proficiency, PIET grabbed 131 positions, which is 26 times more than the average distribution. That is how PIET is best known for placements. To make such miracles happen one must understand the modus operandi of the companies who follow the process through aptitude tests which require a thorough knowledge of your core discipline in addition to good mathematical skills. We at PIET have allocated slots for ‘Aptitude Skill Development’ sessions carried by experts. This makes the mind sets at the required positive confidence level.

Same way, for the interview preparations, the students are trained to prove their mettle and display confidence to the interviewers and convince them that they are the most suitable for the job. The key to success is that opportunities are many and varied, just keep yourself aware about these and strike the iron when it is hot. All this is done through PDP classes which are a part of the routine time table.

GLOBAL TIE-UPS and student/faculty exchange programs with Universities of USA, UK, Sweden, Germany and Holland are other effective tools used for developing skill sets of the students. Not ending here, international seminars are another method to make students placement ready. During one of such seminars Prof. Bob Mathur, Sr. Project Manager, Phillips 66 Refinery (Exxon Refinery), USA, said, “Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology which has earned now the name of the Top Engineering and Management Colleges in Haryana, Delhi NCR and North India, enjoys a high reputation because the student team of Engineering stream has left behind an impression of being the best taught pupils during their visit to NJIT, New Jersey USA”.

The Institute we are talking about is affiliated to the highly reputed Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. It is also approved by AICTE, Government of India. It is situated at 70 mile stone on the brink of NH-1 just 50 minutes away from Delhi Border on the Delhi-Panipat lane.

How Institutes Should Organize Mentoring by Industry Leaders?

In the new world scenario it is assumed that for the best higher education and training for Engineering and Technology students it is mandatory to have a real-world experience, pragmatic advice and a broad professional network that enhances their capacity to engage with industry and understand commercialization and regulatory processes related to business organizations. It can only be made possible by an industry leader who will be the mentor for a specified period of time. It would include face to face mentor-mentee meeting to review mentee progress, career aspirations, challenges, skills development, answer questions, and to share knowledge and experiences. This can be an outstanding opportunity to have access to a mentor who has “been there, done that” with years of experience and expertise in industry.

As Engineering Graduates wrap up their institutional part, they will become the fresh faces entering the workforce throughout the summer and fall months enriched by the guidance of their mentors through great orientation programs. These interns to the industry get a warm smile and feel welcomed. It is rightly said that mentoring is also a highly effective strategy for tapping into an organization’s own pool of experienced professionals as the new minds come with new ideas to work upon.

Some premium institutes are adopting this methodology and by virtue of its Global Tie-ups Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) is one of the pioneers in this system of education advancement. This institute is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and also has the approval of AICTE, Govt. of India.

In one of such mentoring sessions Mr. Yong K. Kim, Ph. D.C text/FTI from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth I.T., USA spoke to the group of mentees on the topic of “Dimensions of Technical Textiles for Development and Productivity: Lessons, Challenges and Opportunities" which opened new vistas to the budding Textile Engineers that how textile industry is related to the automobile industry. This session presented a much bigger view of the prospects available to the textile engineers in the offing because the automobile business in no way would be looking back. He was highly appreciative about the academic level and dedication of the faculty team, which he added is not generally found in most Indian colleges which he keeps visiting from time to time. He made special reference to the teachers who had won Gold Medals with their degree attainment. He also spoke high about PIET Management approach for sending their faculty members to add to their knowledge under ‘Certificate of Summer Internship’ workshop undertaken by Prof. Jiri Militky, faculty of TUL, Czech Republic. It is worth mentioning here that Prof. Jiri Militky is an unchallenged authority on textile engineering.

PIET is an Institute of repute registering its existence at 70 mile stone on the G T Road between Delhi and Panipat. The campus is of students’ choice with a picturesque look and outstanding infrastructure. The facilities for students include AC Class rooms, Libraries, Net-Café, Computer Labs, Science Labs and Workshops with latest equipments and above all the best of competent teachers.

It also has a sizeable student population which comes from Haryana, Delhi and all other States of India while still many more come from adjoining countries of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Accordingly there are hostels for boys and girls which are furnished to provide ‘at home’ feelings to the lodgers.

With all these luxuries what we ensure for the aspirants is to

  • Be professional and credible
  • Set and achieve goals
  • Share experiences, resources and networks
  • Ask open questions
  • Learn from mentoring relationships
And the point to understand is that mentor-mentee relationships are all around us which is a natural relationship that blossoms from trust and dedication, a wealth of resources to help and guide you through a successful experience
